Next week Friday and Saturday, get ready to be transported to another world – 18 of them, actually. The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour Durango stop will take you to Ecuador, where two women build and maintain their own dirt track in their backyard for mountain biking; it will take you to the universe of a 90-year-old ice skater who feels more at home on skates than on her feet; it will take you inside the mind of a mountain biker who combines the sport and painting; and so much more.
You’ll journey to remote locations, kayak powerful rivers through bedrock gorges and over waterfalls, ski 2.5 million vertical feet, and climb the flat face of a mountain.
Each spring Rocky Mountain Wild and the San Juan Citizen Alliance team up to host the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Durango – an event that supports our work protecting Wolf Creek Pass. After years of turning people away at the door, we are proud to announce that we have expanded the event to feature two nights of high action, mountain adventure. This year, the festival will be held on March 16 and 17. Each night will feature a different line up of films, and discounted two-day passes are available.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, we will be showing a variety of films that highlight female athletes and film makers. “For years, we’ve struggled to create a film program that celebrates the accomplishments of both men and women. This year, however, we had really great films to choose from and we have been able to put together a show that is more balanced, which is exciting,” one of the organizers of the Durango showing, Tehri Parker, stated. “As we’ve seen in the last couple of years, inclusion and representation on screen and behind the camera is incredibly important. We hope that everyone who attends can see themselves in our line up.”
We hope you’ll join us for one or both days, and let us take you to some of the most captivating places on earth. For tickets, more information about the line up for both days, and other information, visit the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour webpage.
